All Systems Go For Finals as Semi-Final Draw Made

11 February 2019

The final hurdle for colleges hoping to reach the RUSTLERS CFAI Cup Finals was made known today as the semi-final draws were performed for the five competitions as part of the official launch of this year's series of finals in St. Laurence's Church in TU Dublin's Grangegorman campus.

The newly-christened TU Dublin City Campus are set to host this year's RUSTLERS CFAI Cup Finals predominantly within the Grangegorman campus with additional facilities in Broombridge also on standby to cover the five finals set to take place on Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th March. The centrepiece event, the RUSTLERS CFAI Perpetual Cup Final was confirmed to take place in Tolka Park on the evening of Tuesday 5th March.

CFAI Chairman Joe O'Brien said, "The TU Dublin facilities in Grangegorman are fantastic. They are perhaps one of the best on-campus facilities that we've come across with our competitions. I would also like to thank Dublin City Council and Shelbourne Football Club for the use of Tolka Park for the CFAI Cup Final. I would like to wish all of the managers, coaches, referees and particularly the players all the best for the semi-finals and finals and I hope it is an enjoyable experience for all.

The four teams vying for the opportunity to play in Tolka Park are IT Sligo, GMIT Galway, TU Dublin Blanchardstown Campus, and Waterford IT. It will be a long journey for Waterford IT, managed by Sean Geoghegan, as they travel to the North-West to take on Premier Division opposition, IT Sligo. In the other side of the draw, it will be a repeat of the recent CUFL Division One quarter-final as GMIT Galway will travel to Blanchardstown praying that they can reverse the heavy 8-0 scoreline that was inflicted upon them in their last encounter.

In the CFAI Plate draw, the most successful side in CFAI competitions in the last decade, IT Carlow saw their A team drawn away to Premier Division rivals Athlone IT in the last four. The IT Carlow 'C' team who also remain in the subsidiary were also drawn away to fellow CUFL Division Two opposition, the National College of Ireland.

The Challenge Cup will see Galway Technical Institute travel to play Waterford IT 'B' and Cork IT 'B' will play host to Dublin Business School.

Named after long-time CFAI Chairman and former Dublin IT (TU Dublin City Campus) staff member, Robert Eustace, the Eustace Cup will see Waterford IT 'C' take on Dundalk IT 'B' and Carlow Institute of FET recreating the 2016/17 CUFL Division Four Final when they host Waterford College of FE. The Eustace Shield has drawn Limerick IT 'C' and the winners of the rescheduled Carlow College, St. Patrick's and Athlone IT 'D' together to face the winners of IT Carlow 'D' and Drogheda Institute of FE in the first week of March.
