Wonder Winner for Carlow

05 March 2019

Super sub Niall Harvey was the Carlow Institute hero after coming off the bench on the hour mark and firing home the only goal 20 minutes later to clinch a first ever Colleges FAI Eustace Cup success for the Carlow side.

Harvey had added an extra bit of sharpness to his side when he made his appearance after this south east derby had developed into a nip and tuck affair with both sides failing to break the deadlock.

The Carlow man gained possession on the edge of the Waterford area and he despatched a cracking right footed drive just inside the post despite a great effort of goalkeeper Nathan Wolohan to get a hand to it.

Kieran Kelly hit the post for Waterford in the first half and Ryan Lewins had his effort skim the Carlow cross bar.

While Carlow's best chance came when Wolohan spilled a Felix Lawlor drive but Jack Lennon was on hand to clear the danger.

A late burst from Waterford nearly brought a equaliser but Cillian Dollion was way off target with his finish.
