Colaiste Ide Win CUFL First Division Title

26 February 2009

The Oscar Training Centre in Coolock played host to the CUFL Division 1 Final 2008/2009 between the Dublin colleges of Colaiste Ide and Sallynoggin College of Further Education. Played on a fantastic surface in front of a strong Colaiste Ide support contingent this fixture proved to be an exciting evenly contested final.

Sallynoggin dominated the first 30 minutes taking the lead through a Peter Mc Gee finish after just fifteen minutes and soon after they hit the crossbar from a long range effort. On 35 minutes Colaiste Ide's equalised when Shane Staines drilled a fantastic 20 yard effort into the top corner of the Sallynoggin net. One minute into additional time at the end of the first half after confusion in the Sallynoggin defence Carl Brannigan capitalised on a loose ball to rattle the back of the net from 6 yards and Colaiste Ide went in 2-1 up at the break.

Sallynoggin came out in the second half as they did in the first half but the Colaiste Ide defence now settled into the game proved difficult to break down. In the 80th minute the Colaiste Ide side broke on the counter attack and after a through pass into centre forward Carl Brannigan he slipped the ball past the Sallynoggin keeper for his second and his side's 3rd, proving to be the final score of the game.
The medals and trophies were presented by FAI Grassroots Unit Manager, Liam McGroarty and FAI Welfare Officer Michael Lynam
