25 June 2009
The Mens Football Squad travel to Belgrade today for the 25th World University Games. Billy Brennan (UCD) and Stephen Roche (DIT) are the only two players that featured at the last games in 2007 in Bangkok.
Manager Kieran Harding stated “we’ve gone to Belgrade earlier than anticipated in order to prepare for the opening game. We are in a tough group and the first match is of critical importance as we seek to obtain one of the first two places in the group to qualify for the quarter finals”.
Ireland will look to improve on a 13th place finish from last time but are a tough group with beaten finalists from 2007 Italy, Korea and an opening game on Tuesday against Uruguay.
