IT Carlow were desperately unlucky today at the European University Futsal Championships in Zagreb going down 3-2 to WG Münster, Germany.
In a game that flowed from end to end from the start, the three goalkeepers were called on time and time again to make outstanding saves for their teams. Munster went ahead in the first half as they too easily opened up the Carlow boys to lead 1-0. The highlight of a frantic first half was an audacious chip from Ben Ryan from close to his own goal that clipped the crossbar for what would have been the goal of the tournament. Carlow started the second half brightly and were rewarded for consistent pressure when Robbie Farrell got his first goal of the tournament. However Muster were back in front soon after when they took advantage of a kick free to open the Irish defence up. Three minutes later it was 2-2 when Craig Wall powered home after an excellent passage of play from IT Carlow. The game continued to ebb and flow with chances at both ends but Carlow were caught again with a Munster counter attack three minutes from time.
IT Carlow now play University of Saint Gallen Switzerland on Saturday's play off game.
