Danny Crowley and Sue Ronan have been announced by CUSAI as the 2011 World University Games Managers for Mens and Womens Football. The event will take place in Shenzhen, China from 12th to 23rd August 2011.
Sue Ronan, who was recently announced as the Irish Senior Womens Team Manager, will take a team to the games for the second time following the 2009 games in Belgrade. "I'm delighted to have been appointed manager of the 2011 World Student Games squad. The 2009 games in Belgrade was my first exposure to this fantastic competition and it was an experience I will never forget. The fact that I'm also Head Coach to the Irish Senior Squad I feel is an added advantage, as a lot of the girls from that squad are still in college and eligible for the games, while others who are knocking on the door, will see the World Student Games as a potential stepping stone for them” said Ronan.
Danny Crowley has been the CFAI National Team manager for two seasons and brings a wealth of third level experience to the position having also managed Colaiste Ide in the CFAI and CUFL competitions for a number of years. "I am delighted to have been given the opportunity lead the Irish Men’s football team to the World University Games in Shenzhen, China. I am excited at the prospect of working with our best Student Athletes and look forward to putting together a strong squad that can go and compete at the very highest level" said Crowley
Cathy Gallagher, CUSAI's Chef de Mission explained “The World University Games is the pinnacle of sport at third level education and requires selection of the highest calibre of student and official within Ireland. As Head of Delegation, I welcome on board the expertise of Sue and Danny for our football teams and look forward to working with them both to maximise this high performance opportunity for our students”
