Students Shoot with Cork City

02 October 2008

Over the last week Cork City FC club promotions officer Stephen Ryan has hit the colleges in Cork with the help of the new College Development Officers for the FAI Greg Yelverton (UCC) and Barbara O’Connell (CIT, CSN, ST Johns, Cork College of Commerce) in the Cork region

Greg Yelverton UCC Facilitator and Jill UCC Captain

The Soccer Superstar Challenge has been touring the summer soccer schools during July and August but the weather wasn’t half as good as it was in University College Cork, Cork Institute of Technology and Colaiste Stiofain Naofa in a very welcome period of sun in late September. The students in each of the colleges were eager to take on the ‘Soccer AM’ style challenge and show off their skills to their class mates. Both Greg and Barbara gave out prizes on each of the days including tickets to Cork City v UCD, FAI Tracksuits, t-shirts and pin badges. The aim of the visits was to introduce students especially fresher’s and in particular the new visitors to the city to the Eircom League of Ireland especially Cork City Football Club but also encourage students to take up soccer whilst attending college be it in a competitive or non competitive manner. If you are interested in taking up soccer at your college contact Greg in UCC Sports Office or Barbara in CIT/CSN.

Stephen Ryan,
Club Promotions Officer, Cork City Football Club.
