Eric Molloy fired Carlow in front on 20 minutes with a wind assisted long range effort than somehow found its way past Stiofain Naofa 'keeper Ryan Price.
Carlow doubled their advantage early after the break with a fine finish from John Morgan following good work by Conor O'Brien to set up the striker.
Jamie Stack tested Carlow 'keeper Seamus Houghton on a couple of occasions after that but the Cork boys failed to make any headway against their vastly experienced opponents with several League of Ireland regulars in their line up.
