CUFL RUSTLERS Division Four Group C

Kick Off: Thursday 20th October 2016 at 12:30
Location: Castlevilla
Referee: To be Confirmed

Teams: Carlow Institute of FE 3 vs St Patrick's College, Carlow 1

Carlow IFE were given a much sterner test in Matchday 2 of the CUFL Division 4 by fellow Carlow side St. Patrick's College. In a stop-start first half, the home side enjoyed most of the possession but were never allowed to fully get into their rhythm by their combative opponents who racked up an impressive foul count. One such free kick on the edge of the box was converted low to the bottom corner of the net by skipper Jordan Harmon in the 15th minute. Full back Evan Phillips was showing good attacking instincts down the left hand side and linking up well with his winger David Eghe and striker Davis Pedro but CIFE were unable to add to the scoreline. St. Patrick's equalised against the run of play in the 33rd minute. A free-kick from outside the box took a deflection and fell nicely for away team's attacker to finish to the net leaving the teams level at the break.

Aaron Murphy and Azzedine Ahmed were introduced early in the second half to lift the tempo but it took a piece of magic from Davis Pedro in the 69th minute to restore the lead. The vice-captain cut in from the left, weaving past a couple of defenders, and finished clinically to the delight of his teammates. The same player doubled the lead with 10 minutes remaining following excellent work from Ahmed and Conor Owens who had pushed on from midfield. Pedro was denied a second successive hattrick when he finished Aaron Murphy's cross with a header but was deemed to be offside. Adam Doyle and Gareth Murphy commanded at centre back all afternoon and gave away very few chances while Evan Dudley, Chris Bermingham and James Doyle also contributed from the bench. CIFE are idle next week but look forward to travelling to play IT Carlow 'D' in the Bob Eustace Cup Round of 32 after the mid-term break.
