COLLINGWOOD CUP PRELIMINARY ROUND DRAW

27 September 2017

Three big ties to be played in the Collingwood Cup Preliminary Round.

The decision of the Irish Universities to scale back their annual flagship Collingwood Cup tournament from a four day affair to three days next year has resulted in a Preliminary Round of games set to be played pre the main competition which will be hosted in Belfast by Queens University from Monday February 5 - Wednesday February 7 2018.

The leading Irish fast food brand Rustlers - part of the Kepak Group - has now come in to sponsor all Third Level Football league and cup competitions which will includes the Collingwood Cup which is now in it's 104 year.

With only the hosts Queens University exempted the other ten entries were in the Preliminary Round draw which was held on Sunday last and it has been kind to the holders UCC and last season's runners up UCD who have been spared having to play a preliminary round tie.

However last season's two defeated semi finalist DCU and University of Limerick have not been so lucky and they will have to get over preliminary round ties if they are to make it into the quarter finals in Belfast.

DCU have to travel to Dangan to meet NUI Galway while University of Limerick will entertain Maynooth University.

Queens University Belfast Sports Arena at The Dub will be the venue on Friday December 8 for the Quarter Final draw and the official launch of the 2018 the newly named Rustlers Irish Universities Collingwood Cup tournament.

Preliminary Round Draw
NUI Galway v Dublin City University
University of Limerick v Maynooth University
Trinity College Dublin v Royal College of Surgeons

Games to be played no later than January 24 with the first named teams in each tie to have home advantage.

Byes into Quarter Finals - Queens University Belfast, University College Cork, University College Dublin, Ulster University, Mary Immaculate College Limerick.
