Harding Cup QFs - Belfield Blitz Downs Hosts

22 February 2018

The holders and this year's hosts DCU made an early exit when the Rustlers IUFU Harding Cup got under way at the AUL Complex this afternoon.

Their opening quarter final tie proved to be a disappointing affair for the Glasnevin Freshers with UCD powering to a clear cut 4-0 victory.

Eoghan Cregan had UCD in front after six minutes with his header from a well placed Paul Doyle free kick beating DCU 'keeper Dylan Fitzpatrick.

Sam Howard went close to equalising a couple of times in the first half but he lacked accuracy in front of goal.

UCD took a firm grip on the tie after the break and added three further goals before the hour mark.

John O'Keane's clinical finish after great work by Sean McDonald made it 2-0.

Doyle then followed up by firing home a brilliant 25 yard pile driver before Niall Faherty did something similar with his free kick shortly after to leave UCD comfortably through to a semi final clash with UCC.

The Cork side beaten finalists last season had a hard fought 2-0 victory over NUI Galway.

Andrew McMahon and Owen Collins were on the mark for UCC who will be anxious to regain the trophy they last won in 2015.

The second of the semi finals will be between Maynooth University and Trinity College Dublin after both sides managed to come through tight games in the quarter finals.

Eoin Donnellan's first half strike gave Maynooth the win over University of Limerick while goals from James Kelly and Cian Dunne cancelled out Sean Doherty's effort to send Trinity into the semi final at the expense of Mary Immaculate College Limerick.
