17 September 2018

The current holders of the Rustlers Collingwood Cup face a tricky trip to Limerick in the first round of the blue riband competition.

In a repeat of the 2012 final, the newly crowned SSE Airtricity League Division One champions face CUFL Division One side Mary Immaculate College, managed by ex-Limerick manager Noel O'Connor. The Limerick-based side had a tournament to forget last year as they were defeated 7-0 by UCC in Belfast before being eliminated from the Farquhar Cup by Ulster University.

The Farquhar Cup holders, Ulster University, were drawn to play NUI Galway in this season's opening round. The last time that NUI Galway faced an Ulster University side in the Collingwood Cup was the 2008 semi-final where the then-known Ulster University Jordanstown defeated the Connacht University 4-0 en-route to lifting the trophy that year in Eamon Deacy Park.

The third first round tie pits CUFL Premier Division rivals Maynooth University and Trinity College Dublin together. Both sides managed to overcome first round obstacles in last season's competition before both being eliminated in the Quarter Finals.

Dublin City University, Queen's University Belfast, Royal College of Surgeons, University College Cork and University of Limerick will all enter the competition at the Quarter Final stage.

Dates for all three First Round ties are to be confirmed by the IUFU with this year's Finals being hosted by the University of Limerick from the 4th to 6th February.
