Holders Queens University Belfast eased their way into the last four of the Irish Universities Crowley Cup with a clear cut 3-0 win over DCU when the competition which is confined the players who hadn't figured in the recent Collingwood Cup got under way at Ulster University Coleraine Campus.

While penalty shoot outs were needed in the other two quarter final ties to decided who would join Queens and St Mary's University College Belfast in the semi finals. The St Mary's side had received a bye after the late withdrawal of University of Limerick.

UCC and hosts Ulster University Coleraine proved more accurate with their spot kicks and managed to made it through.

The Cork side lead Maynooth through a Sean Grace goal midway into the second half but they were stunned in the closing minutes when Rodrigo Goncalves headed home a Maynooth equaliser to take the game into extra time.

With neither side able to come up with a winner UCC had the better of the penalties winning 8-7.

The Coleraine and Trinity quarter final ended scoreless after extra time despite the home side having most of the chances before they managed to squeeze out Trinity 3-2 in the penalty shoot out thanks to goalkeeper Ben McCauley who saved three of the spot kicks.

Two goals from Tom Finan either side of a fine Matt McRory finish helped Queens comfortably overcome DCU and keep their hands on the trophy they had captured in Cork last year.
