DublinBus Collingwood Cup 2011 At Trinity College Dublin From 21st – 24th February 2011

The Cup has been played for annually since 1914 apart from 1915-1919 period (WW1) and on one other occasion in 1933/34.

The tournament, played over four days, is an all island competition involving 13 Universities and this year’s favorities and last years winners UCD were the first winners in 1914 overcoming Queen’s University, Belfast.

However, UCD will be challenged hard this year by University College Cork who have five wins since 2000 and University of Ulster Jordanstown who were winners in 2001, 2006 and 2008.

The hosts, Dublin University (Trinity), have only succeeded twice, the last win coming in 1979 when they were managed by the great Liam Tuohy.  This year they have a difficult quarter final against the winners of the first round game between Queen’s University, Belfast and University of Ulster Jordanstown.

Of the 13 teams taking part, seven have never won the Collingwood and will be hoping to make this year a memorable year.

All the games will be played at 11am and 2.30pm at D.U. Playing Fields, Santry Avenue, Dublin apart from the hosts games and the final which will be played on Thursday 24th February 2011 in College Park at 2.30pm.

A full programme of games, times and venues is attached.  ENDS.
