Royal College of Surgeons shock Trinity College as UCD overcome DCU on penalties and Maynooth beat Queens comfortably

In the opening game of the 2012 Collingwood Cup, RCSI pulled of a big upset by beating Dublin University in a hard faught match on the Bowl. The Surgeons took the lead midway through the second half and held off DU to record a famous win and book a quarter final date with UUJ

NUI Maynooth 4-0 Queens University Belfast
NUIM recorded an impressive victory over Queens. Maynooth looked the most likely to win the match from the start but were kept at bay by Queens goalkeeper Jack Duffin. Duffin had to be taken off later in the first half after suffering a shoulder injury. Maynooth took control of the game when they scored their first and never really looked like being beaten

UCD 1-1 DCU (UCD won 6-5 on penalties)
UCD, who came into the game as favorites, where given a big fright in this Dublin derby. DCU where the better side in the first half, playing some tidy football and deservedly took the lead. With DCU tiring in the second half, UCD started to take control of the game but only managed to find the equaliser on 85mins. UCD then missed 2 out of their first 3 penalties but prevailed after each team had taken 10 penalties each, with goalkeepers from both teams making great saves. UCD now go on to face NUIM in the quarter finals in what promises to be a very exciting game.
