UCD Capture IUFU Harding Cup

09 February 2014

A late Conor Cannon goal captured a third Irish Universities Harding Cup in four years for UCD in the decider against NUI Galway at University of Limerick.

Earlier in the day DCU's Jordan Noonan scored a 93rd minute winner against Mary Immaculate College in the Plate Final.

UCD 2 NUI Galway 1

Cannon netted the winner in the closing minutes after UCD had come back from going a goal down on 18 minutes through Galway winger Eoghan Walsh. Evan Boyce then failed to stretch the lead shortly after when he shot well wide from the penalty spot. Galway did manage to hold their advantage for over an hour after until Dean Clarke levelled with a neat finish from Cannon's through ball on 76 minutes.
The game then had to be delayed for a further 15 minutes when Galway's Patrick Evason was hospitalised after sustaining a back injury. On the resumption of play Cork native Cannon struck almost immediately to claim the win with a close range effort after Tim Molloy and Clarke combined well to set him up. Cannon crowned a memorable day by picking up the Player of the Tournament award.
