Preview Irish Universities v Defence Forces

01 April 2014

The Irish Universities scored a fine 4-3 win over the Irish Defence Forces in Cork last year with a late winner from Sean Hoare to take the Irish Pensions Trust Trophy for the first time since 2007.

So manager Barry Prenderville will be hoping for a repeat of that performance when the Universities bid to retain the trophy at Peamount United FC to-morrow Wednesday kick off 2.0.
The 1-0 defeat by the Colleges FAI last week in the Hooper Trophy game at Coolock was a disappointing result but Prenderville is optimistic ahead of what is always a stiff test against a strong Forces outfit.
'We were outplayed by the Colleges last week for a good portion of the first half and our 'keeper Niall Corbett did brilliant to keep the score 0-0 at the break' said Prenderville. 'But I'm looking forward to the Forces game as I really think our lads had a much better second half last week and although the Colleges did score a late winner and were probably the better side on the 90 minutes I was pleased considering it was our first time to play together and Danny Crowley's squad had already been involved in several other games' added Prenderville.
