Harding Cup - Quarter Finals

Kick Off: Friday 10th February 2017 at 14:00
Location: College Park
Referee: To be Confirmed

Teams: Dublin City University 5 vs Trinity College Dublin 0

The Glasnevin boys had little difficulty accounting for host's Trinity College at College Park coming out comfortable 5-0 winners.

DCU started on the front foot and could've been in front in the opening minutes as they struck the post before Trinity desparately scrambled the ball clear. Trinity goalkeeper Michael Collins was forced into a number of smart saves in the opening quarter, denying the lively Jack O'Connor.

The breakthrough came on 24 minutes when O'Connor glided past the Trinity defence and forced Collins into another stop which he could only parry into the path of Colman O'Brien who tapped in to give his side the lead. A lead that was doubled four minutes later when Sean McCarthy picked up the ball on the right side and drove inside before unleashing a 30 yard shot which Collins had no answer for.

Trinity were offered a lifeline just before half time when Rory Nairn went through one on one with Lee Doyle in the DCU goal. It looked as if Nairn was bound to score but Doyle stayed big and with the aid of his defence scampering back managed to remove the threat.

DCU would punish the hosts for this wasted chance as O'Brien got to the byline and pulled it back for McCarthy to get his second with 3 minutes left of the first half.

Any hopes Trinity had of mustering up a comeback were immediately dissolved as O'Connor would net twice in quick succession at the start of the second period to allow DCU to coast home and give players rests ahead of the big semi-final tomorrow - a repeat of last year's final against UCD.
