Waterford looked comfortable on the hour and had established a two goal lead after Craig Hayes the Wexford FC forward had netted twice.

The first goal arrived just on half time when his fiercely struck drive was deflected past goalkeeper Jamie Lawlor by a defender.

Hayes was on target again 15 minutes into the second half after he met a Sean Duffy cross field pass first time to steer the ball over Lawlor for a classy finish.

Carlow refused to be written off and they responded in fine style with goals from Jordan Murphy and Jordan Harmon to level the game with 12 minutes remaining.

Back came Waterford and Duffy put them in front again on 81 minutes before Davis Pedro quickly fired in the equaliser after he ran on to a long clearance and slipped the ball past goalkeeper Nathan Byrne.

The drama wasn't over yet as Carlow grabbed the winner minutes later when Adam Doyle got a touch to an Evan Phillips free kick and beat Byrne at the far post.
