Trina Duggan's extra time penalty caps off the Garda College's return to Third Level Football with success

A strong comeback saw newcomers Garda College Templemore claim their first Third Level Football trophy with a narrow 2-1 extra time win over the local Mary Immaculate College side in the Women's League Challenge Shield final at UL.

An early goal from Niamh Egan had put Mary Immaculate in a dominant position by the interval with only a couple of dangerous corners from Julie Condon the only threat coming from Garda.

The second half saw a determined Garda side quickly take the upper hand.

Aoife O'Gorman had a close range shot blocked by Ciara Downes then Trina Duggan just failed to get a touch on to another well delivered Condon corner.

The Garda pressure was rewarded on the hour mark when the impressive Condon collected a Amy Lee Quinn free kick to get past Carolinas Dullea on the left and fire home a stunning effort past a helpless Hazel Shanahan.

Duggan might have won the game for Garda near the end of normal time but her shot from close in was brilliantly saved by Shanahan.

A penalty for hand ball in the sixth minute of extra time then decided the outcome and Duggan with a cool finish made sure the Garda captured their first trophy.
