old foes face premier showdown

26 February 2018

The RUSTLERS CUFL Premier Division Final will be contested by UCD and UCC for the second year in a row on Tuesday afternoon in Home Farm FC, Whitehall.

The two sides clash again 12 months on after both required penalties to see past DCU and IT Carlow respectively.

There will be more motivation to avenge the loss against Diarmuid McNally's side for the Munster men as they are currently staring at an empty trophy cabinet as they failed to retain the Collingwood Cup this season, incidentally going the way of the Belfield side.

It is a competition that UCC have yet to win and their young side will be eager to prove their worth against a UCD side in the peak of its powers having seen past all challenges that have fell their way so far. They are seeking a seventh success in the competition and to further establish their dominance in this sphere.

As it has been for most of this season, UCC will have to make do without talismanic forward Daniel Pender who scored in last year's final as he still recovers from injury with Rob Lynch also on the sideline. They do expect to have Cork City's Sean McLoughlin in the squad along with Cobh Ramblers duo Cian Leonard and David Hurley.

For UCD, Josh Collins is suspended following his red card in the semi-final against DCU. They do have striker Georgie Kelly available after he missed out on the semi-finl through suspension. Evan Osam and Neil Farrugia will not feature as they recover from injury. Ben Hanrahan may be included as he was on the bench for their opening SSE Airtricity League tie with Shelbourne last Friday night following an injury lay-off.

The game will be live on the FAI Third Level Football Facebook channel from 3.55pm. Click here to go to the page now
