amazing mazen delivers rathmines glory

12 March 2018

Mazen Agamy struck with a second half double to help Rathmines College claim a first ever Rustlers Colleges and Universities Division Four title with a 3-1 victory over Griffith College in the decider at the FAI NTC Abbotstown.

The win was a welcome change of fortune and wiped out any lingering disappointment they still had after suffering defeat to UCC 'C' in the 2016 final.

A ding dong Dublin derby looked like remaining scoreless at the interval until Fabian Grebe got past a hesitant Rathmines defence to put Griffith in front two minutes from the break.

But just when they thought they could hold on to their advantage going into the second half Joel Bekombo levelled seizing on a short back pass and roll the ball into the unguarded net.

Agamy's first to put Rathmines ahead for the first time arrived 20 minutes after the resumption when he ran on to a superb Jack Moore through ball to beat James Collier.

Rathmines had a lucky escape minutes later with goalkeeper Mark Nolan struggling to hold on to the ball under pressure from Alex Duff before it was eventually cleared.

Griffith continued to press for an equaliser and Taha Rzaqi should have beaten Nolan from close in after the ball broke to him in the six yard box but somehow or other he shot over.

That was as close as Griffith came to levelling and two minutes from time Agamy sealed the win when he outpaced the Griffith defence to get a touch on to Nolan's long clearance and steer the ball home with the Griffith 'keeper bearing down on him.
