mcloughlin scoops player award

18 March 2018

UCC's Sean McLoughlin was the winner of the Three FAI Colleges & Universities International Player of the Year at Sunday night's Three FAI International Awards.

He is the second recipient of the award following Maynooth University's Paul Rooney's inaugural success last year. He would shake off tough competition from DCU's Ross Taheny and UCD's Daire O'Connor who were also nominated for the award.

The now-Cork City defender was excellent in games against Scotland, Defence Forces and France last season, including scoring against the French in Epinal.

He would then go on that summer to be selected for and captain Team Ireland in the World University Games.

After signing with Cork City before departing for Taipei, McLoughlin has begun to establish himself within the SSE Airtricity League champions side in the early parts of the 2018 season including a Man of the Match display in Monday's victory against Bohemians.

There was also success at the awards on Sunday night for another current student as UCD's Neil Farrugia was selected as the Schools International Player of the Year following his display's for the U18 Boys in the Centenary Shield last year whilst in his final year in St. Andrew's College, Blackrock.
