chance to assess for yelverton

31 July 2018

The Colleges and Universities National Team take on a Republic of Ireland U19s XI today in an assessment game at the FAI National Training Centre, Abbotstown (2pm).

Head Coach Greg Yelverton has put together an experimental squad with many fresh faces mixed with some with plenty of experience of Third Level International Football. Yelverton has the cast the net out as he begins to plan for the 2019 Summer Universiade next July in Naples, Italy.

"There is such a vast amount of talented players now in Third Level education and playing for League of Ireland and Irish League clubs and getting the opportunity to look at a new crop of these players against high quality opposition is ideal. It is important that we see as many players as possible in these types of conditions before deciding whether to bring them in for tougher challenges ahead," said Yelverton.

Tom Mohan has named a mostly cross-channel squad to face the Colleges and Universities team as part of a two game series which also includes a more home-based XI facing the Drogheda United U19 later this evening.
