northern clash to decide crowley

13 March 2019

It will be a Northern affair in the 2019 RUSTLERS Crowley Cup Final when hosts Ulster University Coleraine Campus take on St. Mary's University College, Belfast in Coleraine on Wednesday afternoon.

It took Coleraine a second consecutive penalty shoot-out in as many days as they overcame Queen's University after both sides played out a 1-1 draw in normal time. Jonny Evans had given Queen's a first half lead but they were pegged back when Luke McCabry netted from the penalty spot with 15 minutes remaining. They held their nerve once more to come out on the right side of a 5-4 score.

They will face St. Mary's who, perhaps wind assisted, swept aside UCC by a wide margin. Thomas McGreevy gave the Belfast side a first half lead before doubling the advantage in the opening minutes of the second half. An unfortunate Niall Galvin own goal made it three goals to the good. UCC could have easily brought themselves back into the game when they missed two penalties in the space of a few minutes before McGreevy notched his hat trick and put the game to bed.

Trinity College Dublin will hope to capture their second cup trophy of the season when they face Maynooth University in the Duggan Cup Final after a 7-0 defeat of DCU. Dickson Olakanye was the star man with a hat trick for the Dublin side with a Daniel Grayson brace confirming their superiority with Niall Barr and Pearse Butler also finding the back of the net.
