Ireland dominated the first half of this game in Stadium FC "Srem Jakovo". DIT's Davy O'Sullivan thought he had given Ireland the lead when his powerful header from an Alan Teggart corner hit the crossbar and appeared to have crossed the line but the referee waved play on. Minutes later Ireland should have gone in front when Mark Surgenor somehow managed to miss the target from five yards. Davy O'Sullivan put Ireland ahead on 23mins after neat play with DCUs John Mulroy, O'Sullivan squeezed the ball under the Moroccan keeper.

Morocco came into the game and UCDs Billy Brennan had to be at his best to push away a strike from 22 yards. Ireland best move of the game came on 35mins. After build up play from the back Dean Zambra played the ball into Mulroy who back healed to Stephen Roche, Roche played in O'Sullivan who went straight for goal and pulled the ball back for Roche. Unfortunately Roche blasted slightly over and Morocco were still in the game. Brennan made another excellent save, this time diving full length to his left to fingertip the ball onto the post. Teggart was next up after more good play but his effort was saved by the keeper. In first half injury time and from an Ireland attack that broke down, a long ball over the top caught out the Irish defence and Ziad Chafiq hit a wonder strike that flew past Brennan from 22 yards into the top corner leaving Ireland very frustrated at half time.

The second half was a more open game and chances were missed at both ends as the effects of six games in eleven days began to take their toll. Ireland thought they had won in it in stoppage time at the end of the game when Gareth Harkin broke through but the Moroccan keeper made a fantastic save.

The game finished 1-1 and the play off place was decided by penalty kicks. Two Ireland penalties were saved and Morocco won 4-3.
