Johnny Glynn's GTI,inspired by man of the match Enda Curran beat Dundalk IT 3-2 today at Leixlip United in an exhilarating CUFL Division 1 final.
GTI went ahead after 3 minutes when a stunning cross from Curran was volleyed to the net by Mark Dowling. However Brian Donnelly's Dundalk hit back within 2 minutes with an outstanding free kick from Darragh McNamara. The rest of the first half was played out with a number of chances being spurned by both teams.
GTI went 2-1 up minutes into the second half when Currans low driven corner was missed by everyone except Noel Varley who fired home.GTI looked to have made the game safe with 20 minutes left when Donal Kelly then rattled the back of the net.However Dundalk got a lifeline when Darragh McNamara scored after some neat footwork with 15 minutes to go.
The last 15 minutes were played at breath taking pace with end to end football with last ditch tackles, great goalkeeping and the post keeping the score at 3-2. In the end GTI won their first league title in their very first season in Third Level competition.« Go Back
