IT Carlow completed a historic cup and league double when they claimed the Colleges FAI Umbro Cup with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Letterkenny IT in the decider at the IT Sligo Knocknarea Arena.
The win for Carlow comes a week after they retained the Colleges and Universities Premier League title by defeating Athlone IT in the final.
Ben Ryan shot Carlow in front at Sligo with their first attack on 23 minutes when he ran on to a Tom Elmes header and cleverly clipped the ball over Letterkenny 'keeper Lee McFadden.
Chris Kerr doubled the lead before the break finishing smartly after Elmes had set him up with a brilliant run and cut back from the bye line.
Letterkenny responed on the resumption and had far the better of the early second half play but failed to find a way past a resolute Carlow defence with centre backs Jamie Carr and James Scallan outstanding.
Tony McNamee was causing problems for Carlow with his long throw ins and Garry O'Loughlin and Barry McNamee both has shots well saved by alert goalkeeper Michael Schlingerman.
The Donegal side were to rue their missed chances later when Carlow sealed the win with a third goal on 72 minutes after Josh Mailey took down Ray Foy in the box and Barry O'Mahony converted the penalty kick.
James Scallan might have added to the total in the closing minutes but the Carlow defender put his penalty kick well wide of McFadden's post after Noel Haverty had been pushed in the box.
