The draw made to-day (Wednesday November 28)at the Newtownabbey Borough Council - Theatre at the Mill - for the Irish Universities Collingwood Cup 2013 to be held at the University of Ulster Jordanstown state of the art Sports Centre...
....commencing with first round games on Monday February 25, Quarter Finals Tuesday February 26, Semis Wednesday February 27 and Collingwood Final Thursday February 28 (probably at Nortel FC).
The draw was also made for the main Freshers competition - the Irish Universities Harding Cup which will take place at the University of Ulster Coleraine earlier that month. Quarter Finals Friday February 8, Semi Finals Saturday February 9 and the Final on Sunday February 10.
Present at the draw was Dr Nigel Dobson (Head of Sports Services at the University of Ulster), Newtownabbey Mayor Victor Robinson, Irish Football Association President Jim Shaw together with Alfie Wylie and Roy Miller, Representatives from the Irish Universities Football Union including Chairman Terry McAuley and Secretary Brendan Dillon with Taylor Kirk from the University, the tournament organiser.
The Collingwood Cup is the oldest all island senior soccer competition which is now in its 99 th year and will be hosted by the University of Ulster Jordanstown for only the second occasion. The first being in 1980 when as the Ulster Poly they captured the trophy and have won it now on five more occasion. Their last victory was at Galway in 2008.
The current holders are University College Dublin who three of the last four Collingwoods.
The competition is organised by the Irish Universities Football Union in partnership with the University of Ulster Jordanstown and is suppoted by the Newtownabbey Borough Council,Irish Football Association and Northern Ireland Ireland Milk Cup.
Any potential sponsors are also very welcome to come on board for this prestigious soccer competition.
