In Coolock, DIT went 2-0 up at half time with two goals in a minute from a Paul Malone and Aaron O'Dwyer. Athlone regrouped at half time and domintated the second half with wave after wave of attack led by Neil Harney and Dan Cunningham. Sean Brennan diverted a Cunningham volley to the net and soon after Brian Gill missed a great chance when all alone inside the six yard box. Gill made amends just moments later after great work by Cantamesa, he turned and drove an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner of the net. Cunningham almost got a winner in injury time but Roberto Lopez headed wide at the other end when it seemed easier to score. However a 96thminute goal by Lopez from a Darren Soone cross won the game for DIT, despite a number of close efforts from AIT late in extra time. It was heartbreak for Athlone who contributed so much to an outstanding game.
In Galway the hosts GTI were shocked 3-1 by Sallynoggin College. The first half was entertaining but finished without goals, but Jamie Snell scored for the visitors 15 mins into the second half. 15 mins later Shane Doyle and then Nicky Byrne put Sallynoggin 3 up before Andy Higgins got a consolation goal for the hosts from the penalty spot.
In Thurles, IT Carlow 'C' raced into an early lead with two Darren Rogers goals but David Maguire had LIT Tipperary level with two goals of his own. Owen White put Carlow ahead in the second half before both sides had a man sent off, and Cian Wogan wrapped up the win with a late goal to leave the score 4-2.
