Moate had the best of the first half action as both teams took some time to settle. Good goalkeeping from Justin Purtill and David Cummins (Carlow) ensured the sides went in at the break deadlocked. Soon after the break it was one nil to IT Carlow when a super cross from Ian Foley headed to the net by player manager Aaron Broaders.
Moate had a great chance to level moments later but Mark Keyes failed to connect at the back post with the goal at his mercy. It was end to end now with a Foley shot well blocked by John Rock for Moate, then great save from Purtill from a Broaders strike, while at the other end Lekan Adams missed the target when it seemed easier to score. However, within two minutes it was 2-0 to Carlow when a cross from Conor Clack finished by Gary Seery.
A superb Devon Germaine free kick flew into the top corner to stretch Carlows lead and soon after it was four when a great Broaders run was halted in the area by Rock, and the man of the match Broaders rolled home the resulting penalty as Cralow threatened to run riot. Four minutes from the end another Clack cross was finished to the net by Victor Famouse .
