UCD 2 ATHLONE IT 0. Goals from Cillian Morrison and Robbie Benson gave UCD a hard earned victory over Athlone IT at Leixlip and booked their place in next month's Colleges and Universities Premier League decider.
Morrison set the Belfield side on the road to a first Premier League final appearance in five seasons with the opening goal on 16 minutes after great work by Tristan Dent and Dean Clarke had set him up.
Clarke should have double the lead before the break but he shot well past TJ Forde's post when a pass to Benson looked the better option.
Athlone struggled to find their best form and Ian Sweeney tested Mark McGinley while later Sean Brennan was unluckly to see his shot come off the post.
Ironically it was Athlone native Benson who sealed the win for UCD in the closing minutes with a smart finish from Conor Cannon's accurate left wing cross.
UCD will now face the winner of next week's other semi final between IT Carlow and DCU in the decider.
