dcu 'c' claim umbro cufl division three final title

18 February 2014

Dublin City University claimed the UMBRO CUFL Division Three title today beating IT Carlow 4-2 on penalties after the game finished 1-1 at Leixlip United FC.

IT Carlow had two chances in the first 20 minutes when on both occasions Ashley Houghton found space behind Michael McKenna, the first time he missed the target but on the second occasion Darragh Hyland stood up well to save.
After 30 minutes good footwork in the penalty area created a chance for Denis Quinlan for Carlow but his strike failed to match the neat play.
Just on the stroke of half time a Shane McCann free kick for DCU was well saved by Paul Miley.
DCU's best chance came after 80 mins when Miley's kick out was intercepted and Darragh Roche got in but his effort was well saved by the recovering Miley.
As the game entered extra time Miley was again the hero for Carlow as he saved twice from Adam Walsh.
Just on the whistle for half time there was drama, Carlow had a goal disallowed with the referee blowing for a penalty, Tolu Asemota received a red card for the tackle and Chris Sutton scored the spot kick. However 5mins later the teams were tied, good play from DCU found Owen McDonnell and his strike from 25 yards flew into the top corner, a fantastic strike. DCU won the shoutout 4-2 with Shane McCann winning the man of the match award.
