The brand new College University Football League (CUFL) season kicks off this week with 24 fixtures set to be played in the opening week.


Reigning Premier Division champions UCD will be hoping to get off to the best possible start against Athlone IT who were narrowly knocked out of the competition at the quarter final stage last season. Dublin IT will play their first CUFL game in the newly developed Grangegorman facility against Maynooth University, who were agonisingly beaten in the Premier League final on penalties. Trinity College Dublin begin their Premier Division campaign in a capital clash against DCU.

In the Southern group of the Premier Division, new boys Colaiste Stiofáin Naofa take the short trip across town to face Cork IT. In what is sure to be a game that could decide the top spot in the Southern division, last year's 1st play last year's 2nd when UL travel to IT Carlow. In the remaining Premier Division tie, Waterford IT play UCC who survived the drop last year in a play-off.

In the revamped Division 1, there are numerous clashes of East against West. In Group A, IT Blanchardstown and Dundalk IT travel to GMIT - Galway and IT Sligo respectively. Mary Immaculate College will also venture across to the opposite coast to play ITT Dublin in Group B. Letterkenny IT will be the longest travellers in the entire matchday as they journey down the N17 to Galway as they take on NUI Galway in Group A. In the other Group B games, Limerick IT welcome Maynooth University "B" and Sallynoggin College of FE are to host IT Carlow "B".

The action keeps on coming in Division 2 with 6 highly competitive games. Games to keep an eye on will be the Southern affair between Cork College of Commerce and IT Tralee, and DCU "B" and Trinity College Dublin "B".

Division 3 also looks set to provide some entertaining clashes as GMIT - Mayo host Moate Business College and Limerick IT "C"'s clash with UCC "B".

These 24 games are the first of a total of 156 games nationwide that are set to be played from now until the second week of November.
