FARE which stands for Football Against Racism in Europe is campaign which happens throughout European Football for two weeks every year. This year's action week runs from 16 to 28 October. Across the continent, from the glamour clubs of western and southern Europe, to the old powerhouses of eastern and central Europe, fans, players and clubs will be united in their determination to tackle racism and discrimination. More than 2,000 activities will take place in 38 countries, organised by non-governmental organisations, supporters groups, ethnic minorities, youth groups and schools. A key focus is to get ethnic minority groups involved. One Game, One Community is the message that will echo across the continent.

On Thursday the 30th of October both CIT and UCC fielded two sides mixed with Irish and other nationalities across the world including Brazil, Spain, China, France, Italy, Holland, Argentina, Denmark and Cameroon. The game also marked a special occasion in Cork Institute of Technology as it was the first soccer game to be played in the new stadium at the college. On the day there was african drummers led by Raj himself a new resident of Cork.

The match was a tight affair in the first half with the sides level at one a piece, however two goals towards the end gave CIT a 3-1 victory and the college another trophy to put into the cabinet at the start of the new academic year.

Speaking after the game Cork City Club Promotions officer said “I was delighted by the turnout today of the two teams and their supporters for what I hope will become an annual fixture during FARE week. I was delighted to sponsor the game as part of our intercultural goals during the year. Cork City Football Club is a club for the whole community and during my work with the club this year I have come across people from all walks of life and games like this are a great occasion to bring people together that will create new friendships and hopefully they will come out in force to support the rebel army in our final game of the season against Sligo Rovers on Friday 7th November”
