IT Sligo became the first team to qualify for the WSCAI National Futsal Finals with a devastating performance throughout.
The home side topped their group with 6 points after inflicting two comprehensive defeats upon GMIT Galway A & B. GMIT Galway A took the runner up spot in the group with a defeat upon their B side. In the other group, Athlone were in a ruthless mood themselves racking up 7 goals without response in the group phase. IT Sligo B managed to nick a spot in the semis with a hard fought victory over GMIT C.
In the first semi-final, IT Sligo A were too good for their B team counterparts seeing out a comfortable 3-0 victory with goals coming from Una Higgins (2) and Aoife Brennan. The second semi was a much tighter affair as it went all the way to penalties after a scoreless draw between AIT and GMIT C. Sorcha Murphy was the hero of the shootout saving two penalties to send GMIT Galway A through to the final.
Aoife Brennan broke the deadlock with a cheeky back heel after just two minutes on the clock. It was end to end action after that with Sligo having the better of the chances but GMIT were not going to give up easy and kept the game at 1-0 until thirteen minutes gone. Top goal scorer on the day Aoife Brennan made it 2-0 before Rachel Kearns added a third in the last minute to win the game 3-0. The winners advance to the finals on the 8th of February with the runners-up qualifying for the plate competition.
