irish hoping for a good start

10 April 2016

The historic inaugural fixture between the newly established Irish Colleges and Universities national team and the Scottish Universities takes place on Monday April 11 at Home Farm FC Whitehall (2.30).

The Irish Head Coach Greg Yelverton will be anxious to see his side get off the mark on a successful note after their initial outing in a representative game with the Irish Defence Forces at Cork last week ended in a 2-1 defeat.

But Yelverton was up beat after his side were a little unlucky not to have picked up a draw.
"We are still putting structures together but to be honest I though we deserved a draw out of the game. Both sides made lots of changes but while the first half was a tight contest I thought we dominated the second and should have scored an equaliser" explained Yelverton.

The Scottish Universities suffered a similar fate in their annual International fixture against the Welsh Universities at Edinburgh last Wednesday. A second half goal from Ellis Bellamey, son of former Wales international Craig Bellamy gave them a narrow win.

Scottish Head Coach Ross Campbell was disappointed with the result but is hoping for a better outcome against the Irish
"We are really looking forward to playing in Ireland against their newly established Irish Colleges and Universities National side and again this will be a real good test for us. We had an excellent 4-0 win against an Irish Colleges representative team in Edinburgh last year but I expect this new selection to prove much more difficult opponents . We will be travelling to Dublin with a similar squad to that who played against Wales." said Campbell.
