irish fall to talented french

19 May 2016

The impressive French Universities showed plenty of class to comfortably overcome the Irish Colleges and Universities with a goal in each half in a international friendly at Whitehall.

The visitors produced a high class performance displaying superior strength, sharpness and technical ability to out play the Irish for long periods.
Both goalkeepers saw little action until the French went ahead on 33 minutes when Mathieu Blasco cleverly flicked the ball past Matt Connor from close in for the opening goal following the failure of the home defence to deal with a corner.

The visitors made wholesale changes at half time and were soon two ahead on 52 minutes with Romain Daniellou beating Connor with a high lob that went in off the far post after Emmanuel Thibault had dispossessed Paul Rooney to set up the chance.

The Irish although still full of effort created few opportunities after that to get back on terms apart from Dean Broaders under pressure from two defenders failing to test substitute 'keeper Brice Cognard and the game ended with the French well in command.
