WSCAI FUTSAL REGIONALS

10 December 2016

The WSCAI Futsal Regionals took place this week with the finalists for the national finals and plate competition decided.

When you bring together the WSCAI football league's Premier Division top scorer and the top two in Division Two, you would expect goals a plenty and that's what Maynooth University's Amber Barrett, IT Blanchardstown's Ellie Ryan-Doyle, and Dublin IT's Amy Murphy delivered in the Group 1 regional hosted in the National Basketball Arena.

Thirty-three goals were scored by the trio, and it was Barrett's Maynooth side who would advance to the National Cup finals after a 5-3 victory over DCU in the final.
Maynooth needed penalties to make it through to the final after failing to breakdown IT Blanchardstown in their semi-final. DCU, who will hope to retain the Plate, defeated DIT by a goal to nil

UL made the most of home advantage in their regional group to progress to the regional final, overcoming local rivals Limerick IT.
Eleanor Stafford would score seven goals, including a brace in the 4-2 victory in the final.

The defending national champions IT Carlow took the next step to retaining their crown with defeat over UCC in a tightly contested regional group.

The Carlow ladies were unbeaten in the group phase to advance to the final. Their opponents were decided in the final group game as hosts Waterford IT needed to get a result against UCC. A disciplined performance from the Cork ladies shut Waterford out allowing the clock to tick down on WIT's participation.
In the final, UCC were unable to stifle the threat of Carlow and would go down by two goals to nil.

UCD proved too good for the rest of their group by blitzing all of the opposition to reach the national finals. They blazed their way through the group stage racking up emphatic scorelines before inflicting defeat upon runners-up Trinity College in devastating fashion

IT Sligo will join the cup finalists after seeing past all challenges that faced them in Group 5. They faced a tough examination from GMIT Galway in the final but emerged unscathed to take the final spot in the national finals
