The Brendan McKenna Memorial Award – a soccer writing competition for third level students – is open for entries.
Students are invited to submit an article on Irish football and a panel comprising members of the Airtricity Soccer Writers Association of Ireland [SWAI] and Brendan’s son, Kevin, will decide the winner.
Brendan was a founding member of the SWAI and a long serving officer and, when he passed away in 2006, the association decided to introduce an award in his memory.
The Task: To write a 900-1,000 word submission on an Irish soccer related topic. This can be either be in the form of opinion, analysis or an interview for the Irish print media.
The Prize: Media access, with an SWAI member, to an international match in 2012, along with a €250 gift voucher towards computer equipment.
