Match Reports from the third and final day of the WSCAI Intervarsities.
CUP GLORY FOR CARLOW
IT Carlow came from behind with two second half goals to edge out IT Sligo on a 2-1 score line and regain the Women's Inter Varsities Cup they last held four years ago in a close decider at Athlone Town Stadium.
Catherine Hyndman put Sligo ahead seven minutes before the break with a header over the advancing Carlow 'keeper Jackie Kinch from Denise McGrath's right wing cross.
Rebecca Horgan and Rachel Graham both went close to an equaliser in the final minutes of the half as Carlow attempted to get back on terms.
A strong second half come back saw Amy Walsh pull Carlow level within three minutes of the restart with a brilliantly struck high looping effort from the edge of the penalty area.
Skipper Graham then saw her penalty saved by Sligo 'keeper Rachel King after the goalkeeper had take down Emma Hansberry in the box.
The Carlow winner came with ten minutes remaining when midfielder Becky Cassin headed home from in front of goal after a well delivered Hansberry corner.
CONSOLATION FOR UCD WITH PLATE WIN
The Plate went to UCD inspired by a tremendous show from Jetta Birrrell.
The UCD player, a recent call up to the Senior Women's International squad, was a real power house in their 3-1 final victory over Waterford IT.
Birrell fired home two of the goals either side of one from Aisling Nugent to give the Belfield side some consolation for missing out on retaining the Intervarsities Cup.
Tara Power had levelled for Waterford before the break but they had no answer to Birrell who stole the show with a top class performance.
GALWAY STROLL TO SHIELD SUCCESS
A fully focused NUI Galway squad added the Intervarsities Shield to the Premier League title with a overwhelming 12-0 victory over a disappointing Ulster University in the decider.
Top scorer Lisa Casserly was in fine form to grab her second hat trick of the tournament with Kara Shue, Jenny Byrne and Eimear Foley hitting a brace apiece.
MURPHY HAT TRICK DOES JOB FOR DIT
Dublin IT's Amy Murphy who also made it on to the Team of the Tournament netted a hat trick in the Shield play off as her side picked up the Shield third place with a 4-0 win over IT Blanchardstown.
Meanwhile UCC defeated Maynooth Universitity 1-0 to take third place in the Intervarsities Cup play off.
