2016 WSCAI Intervarsities Award Winners

17 April 2016

On the final day of the 2016 WSCAI Intervarsities, the WSCAI presented awards to winners of competitions this season and the Intervarsities Team of the Tournament.

The team and player of the tournament was selected by the votes of match officials, team managers and representatives from the WSCAI and FAI.
2016 WSCAI Intervarsities Team, presented by Gordon Brett (Athlone IT)

GK: Rachel King (Institute of Technology Sligo)

  • King was impressive throughout the competition. She kept a clean sheet against UCD, pulled off some important stops against Maynooth University in the semi-final and saved a penalty late on in the final.

DEF: Jetta Berill (University College Dublin)

  • A senior international, Berill played a key role for UCD going forward and defensively. She grabbed two of the goals in the Plate final.

DEF: Shauna Fox (National University of Ireland Galway)

  • Fox has been in tremendous form for club and university in recent months, and adds the team of the tournament award to her evergrowing collection after leading the Galway girls to 2 clean sheet victories on their way to Shield victory.

DEF: Lauren Dwyer (Institute of Technology Carlow)

  • Dwyer was outstanding for the winners from the first whistle of the competition. She would score and keep a clean sheet in Carlow's quarter final before solid defensive performances in the semi-final and final.

MID: Katie McCarthy (University College Cork)

  • McCarthy was excellent for the Cork team, scoring two goals and breaking up countless opposition attacks from the middle of the pitch.

MID: Rachel Graham (Institute of Technology Carlow)

  • The Shelbourne star ran the show for the winners, dictating the play and getting the dirty work done when her team was not in possession.

MID: Emma Hansberry (Institute of Technology Carlow)

  • Another member of Sue Ronan's senior international squad, Hansberry was rested in the opening game and her freshness was crucial for her devestating performances against UCC and former college IT Sligo, with a goal and earning a penalty.

CAM: Amy Murphy (Dublin Institute of Technology)

  • The DIT attacker is the only player in the squad that did not appear in a final but is just as deserving of her place in the team. She scored a spectacular strike to equalise in the Shield semi-final before letting loose on IT Blanchardstown in the 3rd/4th place play-off scoring a superb hat trick.

MID: Catherine Hyndman (Institute of Technology Sligo)

  • A Northern Ireland international, Hyndman was the star for Sligo with full backs unable to contain her runs down the left flank. She would find the net in each game and was a strong contender for the player of the tournament award.

ATT: Lisa Casserly (National University of Ireland Galway)

  • An out-and-out goalscorer, Casserly was unstoppable as Galway cruised to Shield victory with a hat trick in each game.

ATT: Amber Barrett (Maynooth University)

  • The Peamount striker was another who was in serious contention for the player of the tournament award with 6 goals to her name, including an exquisite volley against IT Sligo
